ABOUT US
The History of SAMAKY Organization
On April 9th, 2001, the Cambodian Ministry of Interior officially recognized Samaky as a Cambodian non-governmental organization (NGO). From its founding in 2001 until 2007, Samaky operated primarily from Prey Chhor district in Kampong Cham Province. In 2007, the organization underwent a significant transition, relocating its main headquarters to Kampot Province.
Following updates to Cambodia's legal framework under the Law on Associations and Non-Governmental Organizations (LANGO), issued on August 28th, 2019, Samaky revised its internal structure, statutes, and organizational headquarters to remain in compliance with the new legal requirements.
Since its inception, Samaky has remained dedicated to its mission of fostering sustainable development and supporting vulnerable communities across Cambodia. The organization works tirelessly to implement projects that address local needs, improve living conditions, and empower people through education, healthcare, and capacity-building initiatives.
With its updated structure and renewed commitment, Samaky continues to expand its reach, collaborating with local authorities, community members, and partners to achieve meaningful, long-lasting change throughout the country.

Where We Work
The coastal provinces—Kampot, Kep, Preah Sihanouk, and Koh Kong—have benefited from tourism and related economic activities, which have contributed to poverty reduction. However, challenges persist, particularly in rural and fishing communities, where access to basic services and economic opportunities remains limited. The poverty rate in coastal areas and regions around Tonle Sap Lake continues to be higher than the national average, with many families relying heavily on subsistence agriculture and fishing for their livelihoods.
Moreover, extreme weather events and environmental changes, such as floods and climate change, have further worsened the living conditions of local communities, particularly for vulnerable households.
At Samaky, our programs are designed to address these critical challenges. We prioritize ensuring that economic growth is inclusive and benefits all segments of society, particularly marginalized and rural communities. By promoting sustainable development and equitable opportunities, we aim to create long-term positive change for families in these regions.
I am proud to be part of an organization rooted in solidarity and I am committed to supporting its long-term growth and success.
